On a wet and windy day at Ellon, Mackie started on the back foot with a shortage of players. But with the willingness of the U13s stepping up to take up positions in the team, it was fantastic.
The team felt a bit disjointed at times with some players making their first start, and others in positions they had barely been in before. Nevertheless, Mackie put in a huge effort and although countless tries were scored by the opposition, the desire never left them. Yes we need to improve. But the vital qualities of being a great team are there.
A quick mention to Brody for his hard-fought try, and to the rest of the team including the U13s for not surrendering and lying down. Well done. A big thank you to Martin Frame for coming along to enable us to play the game today and for his support throughout this match.
The support from the U13s that stepped up today was very much appreciated: Dylan Main, Graeme Whittaker, Griff Goalen, Harvey Parley, James Wardell, Murray McLaughlin and Sandy Broadley.
Final score: Ellon 88 v Mackie 5.
